Addonics has recently introduced a great idea that can replace the hard disk of laptop. The company has introduced a flash memory that will replace the 2.5 inches hard disk of the laptop. This flash memory will work with the help of a $30 adapter, which will enable you to boot from CompactFlash memory cards. Without wasting much of time and power, the laptops are converted into solid state notebooks. This same method Addonics has adapted to make CompactFlash Hard Drive Adapters. This device for notebooks is available in both IDE and SATA flavors. The device accommodates either dual or single CompactFlash cards.
It means that your notebook is equipped with CompactFlash card of 12GB, which will cost you around $260. There are many exciting features that you will encounter in this new CompactFlash adapter. This device is capable of giving read/write speed of around 9MB per second. This is for sure is not the configuration of fastest drives in the world, but is surely better than the currently used hard disks.
Within an amount that is under $300, you can get yourself a perfect notebook packed with exciting features.
Some recent news shows that Samsung is launching out CompactFlash cards of memory 64GB in the coming months. This is certain that they are not going to cost you more than $130. This is really a high scale memory of which Samsung is talking about, but for that you have to wait for quite some more time. Anyhow, if you are not interested in that much storage space, this low-priced storage option from Addonics for notebooks is just the perfect choice.
IBM to Introduce Optical Chipset
IBM researchers are going to introduce an optical chipset in the Optical Conference to 2007. The company claims that this optical chip will allow the people to share online data or download the movies eight times more rapidly than what the best class technology allow till date.
According to the IBM researchers, this technology will change the method in which data is currently accessed, used and shared throughout the web for consumer or corporate networks. The transceiver of this chipset is faster enough to reduce the total download time for a typical full length movie. At present it takes normally 30 or more minutes to download a full length feature film, but with this optical chipset it will be done in just a single second.
It is believed that this capability of this chipset to move the data at speeds of 160 billion bits or 160 gigabit of data, just in a second, offers a glance of new age of rapid connectivity that will renovate computing, communication and entertainment.
The science and technology’s vice president at IBM said that the requirement for rapid speed connectivity and greater bandwidth device is increasing with the bang in the total amount of transferred data, when downloading the TV shows, movies, music or images. The high optical communication utility is required to deal with this issue. It is believed that this optical chipset’s technology from IBM may help in dealing with this issue.
To attain this new height of assimilation in chipset, the researchers of IBM have built a unique optical transceiver that includes a typical CMOS (Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor). This optical transceiver is further combined with some other useful optical components that are basically crafted for exotic equipments like Gallium and Arsenide. The size of this complete resultant package is just 3.25mm by 5.25mm, which is pretty small enough to be included on a circuit board.
Although there are best in class technologies that exist today, it will take some more time, about three more years for IBM to produce these optical chipsets for shipping.
When this technology will finally arrive, its immediate impact will be clearly visible on the entire method of communication, computing and entertainment.
